IT WAS FIRST KNOWN AS DECORATION DAY:
Originally commemorating the union of soldiers fallen in the American Civil war, Memorial Day was formerly known as Decoration Day. Women named Boalsburg, Pa 1864 put flowers on the grave of their just dead soldiers. Then from the next year onward, women used to decorate the graves of the brave soldiers which were buried in Vicksburg, Miss. Cemetery. The day of Decoration day was chosen because it was not the anniversary of any particular battle. Many northern states held the same event, but in 1890 Decoration Day as made an official holiday. So this was the reason why this day was called as Decoration Day in early years.

Every year in Washington DC, a special motorbike rally is conducted by the young people on every Memorial Day. Bikers hold an event known as The Rolling Thunder Run, In this annual motorbike, rally participants broaden the awareness regarding Prisoner of Wars and those Missing in Action.
